Gaza Families Finally Bury 112 Relatives Nearly Three Years After Israeli Airstrike
Nearly three years after a November 2023 Israeli airstrike killed 112 members of the extended Abu Sharia and Hasayna families in Gaza City, surviving relatives finally gathered to lay their remains to rest. The retrieval of the bodies was severely delayed because a lack of heavy machinery—exacerbated by restrictions on importing equipment into Gaza—forced families and Civil Defence workers to search through the rubble largely by hand. While the funeral provided long-awaited closure for the surviving family members, it also reopened painful wounds as thousands of other Palestinians remain buried and missing under the enclave's ruins.
